Start outside the lifeboat station then head  along the harbour to the slipway at the far end and turn left along Fore Street.  Take  the second lane to the right, Bunkers Hill. Continue  through a little square and turn left.

Follow the road as it turns right and then left along the back of Porthmeor beach past Tate St Ives. Keep following this road up a steep hill  to the left. At the top turn right and then keep straight on, always uphill towards a terrace of houses (Pen Enys Terrace) facing you. The road  turns left and right, and continues uphill. Take the first road to the  right, Burthallen Lane.

Follow the lane as it bears left and uphill, ignoring a lane straight ahead. After 400 yards look out for a waymarked footpath to the left over a stone stile just where the lane turns sharply left before a house (SW 506 406).  Follow the waymarked path over fields until you reach Trowan. Continue straight on through stone gate posts between the buildings following waymarks.

Head diagonally left  towards Travalgan farm and campsite. Walk along the field at the back of the barn with the hedge on your left. Follow the way marks to where the hedge turns left. Ignore the footpath heading onwards to your right and head straight on over a stone stile (SW 489 401) towards a road between buildings. Turn left into the campsite then right heading for a stone stile between two hedgerows and  cross two fields to emerge onto a lane (SW 490 398).

Turn right then, when you reach a stone building on the right, look left and follow the waymark  through a small gate (SW 488 398). The path heads uphill until you reach  the road and the NT car park  (SW 487 394).

Cross the road and head up through the NT entrance onto Rosewall Hill following the waymarked route.  The path curves around to the right passing a rocky outcrop and then reaches a wooden stile. Continue through two fields to a road (SW 491 386).  Turn right and then left at the minor road for about 100m, then right following the sign to Towedneck Church.  The 16A Penzance to St Ives bus passes this point.

From Towednack car park (SW 486 380) cross the stile in the top right hand corner and continue down the right hand side of the field, hedge on right, field on left and cross over  the next stile. Cross the next field slightly diagonally, making for an opening in the hedge opposite, approx. a third of the way along. Go through the opening and turn sharp left, so the hedge is now on your left with the field on right. Over a stile and then follow the waymarked route through Sweetwater Farm until it meets a road. Continue up the road through the hamlet of Amalveor to Embla Vean.

Find a waymarked  bridleway sign on the right. Take this path which climbs steeply through high banks, and eventually emerges onto Amalveor Downs. Follow the waymarked route until you arrive at a T-junction of paths, with a waymarker post and large granite slab on the ground (SW 468 366) and turn left.

Follow the waymarked route past “The Old Cottage Ladydowns Farm”. Continue past cottages and a farm, passing a sign on the left for Carnquidden Downs Wildlife Haven. This area is known as Bishops Head and Foot, the name given to its boundary stone set in the track. At the end of the track is a gate with a sign Ladydowns Lane leading to the Zennor road, bear left until you come to a T-junction, the Newmill to Treen road. Cross the road to a small car park at Grove Corner (SW 451 360).  The 16A Penzance to St Ives bus passes this point.

Slightly to the right is a bridleway sign. Take this path, but be aware the path bears slightly to the right, following the direction of the sign. Do not go through the 2 large stones opposite, that appear to mark a path.

Follow the waymarked path, eventually reaching a wooden gate set in old stone posts by a tree, and out onto a track. Turn left. About 100 yards down on the right is another wide track which you take, passing a sign for Brook Cottage, take the waymarked path on the left (SW 439 353). Follow the path over the moors until you arrive at the 4 parishes boundary stone, a large stone lying horizontally (SW 429 354). Follow the waymarked route to pick up the track, then turn left past the ruined building and continue along the track to reach the Madron – Morvah road.

Turn right and take the first turn on the left signed to Great Bosullow. Continue up this road for about half a mile until reaching Trehlllys Farm where the track turns to the right, there’s a large monkey puzzle tree in the garden on your right. Follow the waymarked route across Woon Gumpus Downs to the  B3318 road at  SW 395 330.

Cross the road and up the rough track in front of you heading towards Carn Kenidjack and some electricity pylons.  The rough track joins a farm track and returns to being a rough track.  Continue under the pylons until you reach a double gate at SW 390 330. Go through the gate and turn immediately left, down the hill,  with St Just appearing in the distance.  Follow the waymarked route past the stone circle on the left.

Continue past the circle until you arrive at a double gate SW 385 324. Notice the Tinners’ Way stone on your right. Go through the smaller gate and turn left along the track that takes you through Hailglower Farm. On reaching a fork SW 382 319 take the right hand one until it becomes a tarmac road. Continue on the road, down the hill keeping left at SW 378 319 with a little stream running alongside.

On reaching a wooden footbridge SW 374 318, turn left over the bridge and along a path that brings you out on the Tregeseal to Penzance road.  Turn left and in about 100 yards turn right onto a tarmac footpath that continues up the hill into St Just.

Well done – you’ve completed the walk

If you still have enough energy, take a few minutes to visit the Jackson Foundation Gallery in North Row – turn right out of Market Square.  They are one of the major sponsors of the Tinners’ Way.
