St Ives Clodgy Point, Inland Return

This walk can be combined with another 4 mile St Ives walk “St Ives 4 Trewatha Farm, Carbis Bay” to make a full 8 mile walk.

If starting from the bus station, go down the hill and turn sharp left towards the rail station car park, find some steps on the left SW 519 401. 

If starting from the rail station turn left and walk through the car park to find steps on the right SW 519 401.

At the bottom of the steps turn left and follow road between shops.  At the end of the road take the path on the right alongside the sea wall.  Continue around the harbour, turning left into the last road SW 520 408

Follow this road until it turns into a path, descend some steps and once again it leads along the sea wall. 

Cross Porthwidden Beach and follow the path up to the Coastal Watch Station SW 520 411 on the far side.  Turn left to pass the Chapel of St. Nicholas (See Note 1). 

Beyond the chapel descend the steps and follow the path around to Porthmeor Beach SW 519 410 (See note 2).  Descend the steps onto the beach and walk across it to the large white building at the far end . SW 514 407

Climb the steps up from the beach and turn right on to the path at the top. 

Pass the rocky outcrop at Carrick Du SW 512 410 and continue along the path to find a metal field gate.

Take the path on right just past the gate to follow the coast around Clodgy point SW 506 413  

Re-join the Coast Path by a large boulder and continue in the same direction as it follows the contours of the coast. 

There is a section of path laid of large boulders along this section before reaching a metal field gate with a Coast Path marker on the far side.  SW 504 411

Follow the Coast Path before climbing to find another stone marker, SW 501 411 again follow the Coast Path to find a steep climb with some stone steps to find another marker stone, SW 497 409 at this marker turn left to follow the footpath (not the Coast Path) and continue to climb a short distance. 

At the next junction of paths SW 499 410 continue straight on.  At the next junction, SW 501 410 keep right to pass through a metal gate.  Follow the track up the hill and when the lane bears left, find a path on the left over a stone stile.  SW 501 405

Follow this path between two hedges and over another two stone stiles.  Keep to the left-hand edge of the field and discover the far-reaching views over St. Ives Bay (See Note 3). 

Continue to find a gap in the hedge into another field, exit this field in the bottom left corner by a marker post.  Pass through a metal gate and over a stone stile, follow a narrow path to another stone stile to join a lane  SW 506 406.

Follow Burthallen Lane to end to find Alexandra  Road SW 510 404 and turn left to follow the road down the hill.  Where the road bears to the left, take a narrow lane on the right SW 5116 4049 (adjacent to the lane marked as dead end).  At the end of this lane find a car park and cross this to the vehicle exit turn right and immediately right again on to a footpath alongside a recreation field. 

Pass through a housing estate to another car park, turn left onto the Trevernbyn Road, at the end of this road SW 512 404 turn right and follow Bullan’s Lane down the hill. At the end turn left, onto The Stanack SW 514 403 cross the road and take the turning on the right just past the bus stop. 

Turn left on to Trenwith Place SW 515 403, keep straight on as the road turns into a footpath.  Descend some steps then turn right SW 516 403 to ascend some steps at the top of which turn sharp left onto Tregenna Terrace SW 516 402.  Where the road turns right take the steps on the left SW 518 403, turning right at the bottom of the steps to a walkway above Fern Lea Terrace, to once again find your starting point.
