Note: The SWCP between Kemyel Nature Reserve and Lamorna is steep with some climbing and steps involved.
With the carpark on your right, walk 50 m away from the town and take the footpath on the right down some steps. At the bottom turn right and follow the sea wall to the north harbour carpark. Walk around the harbour to the war memorial and then carry straight on, keeping the Ship Inn on the right. Follow the road where it curves to the right and begins to climb, left past the tea shop, and keep climbing past Marshall’s Estate Agents until you reach the old Wesleyan Chapel on the right, just past the turning to the south harbour car park.
Turn right and follow the path up to Love Lane. At the top, turn left and follow the lane until it meets the Raginnis road. Turn right. Walk up the hill for some 250 m until you come to the bridleway sign by the stream on the left. Follow the bridleway past Porth Enys house with its pond, and 600 m later, the old coastguard lookout on the left A few metres farther on, pass a granite outcrop with a bench and the path to Paul35 which branches off to the right.
Follow this along the clifftop to Kemyel Drea. Go through the gate, cross the field diagonally to the left, go through the next gate and cross the stream on the restored clapper bridge. Climb the steps at the far side and walk along the hedge to the gate. Go through that, keep the hedge on your right and take the next gate on the right. This time the hedge is on your left; go along until you come to the steps, go down, and walk down the field towards the woods. Go down the steps to enter Kemyel Nature Reserve.
Turn right. Follow the path through the reserve and out onto the cliffs beyond, climbing the steps around the point and taking care over the boulders as you make your way round to Lamorna Cove. Follow the path past the quarry cottages. At this point, you may want to continue to the cove by crossing the bridge. The café is open in season. Otherwise, at SW 4502 2415, take the footpath on the right and begin to climb the hill again. After some 170 m, look for a footpath on the left between to boulders. Follow this down through the river valley. Where the path forks, keep right, and where it forks again, keep right and go past an old well. At the top of the next rise, take the left fork down to the river’s edge, and follow the path out to the Castellack Road. Turn right.
Walk up the hill for around 20 metres and take the footpath on the right. Follow this as it climbs through fields and woods, climbing four beautifully made stiles. At the top, cross the field to another stile out onto the track at Higher Kemyel. Follow this past the houses and where it bends to the left, climb the large granite stile straight ahead. Follow the hedge to the next stile and then cross the field in the same direction to the next, then diagonally across to the right of the farm buildings ahead. Go through the stile and steps and turn left into the lane at Kemyel Crease. After 150 m follow the path on the right over the stile, through a copse and over another two stiles through water woods and across ancient stepping stones. Continue until the path opens up at Kemyel Drea.
Take the left hand fork towards the barns; go through the gate sand stiles to cross the cattle yard and emerge into the field at the far side. At the medieval cross in the hedge, pass into the field, and keeping the hedge on your left walk along four fields, climbing the stiles; at the fifth, head diagonally across, aiming for the coffen stile next to the garden wall. Turn right and take the next left through Raginnins Farm. Keep going past the old piggery until the road turns into a track, and the climb the stile into the field. Cut across the corner of the field to the gap in the hedge, and then continue in roughly the same direction for two more fields, climbing the stiles as you go. Go diagonally across the next field to a stile, and step down into Love lane. Turn left.
After a few yards, take the path on the right down Love Lane Steps back into Mousehole. At the bottom, go past Treen Villas and then turn right down the steps to Cherry Garden Street. At the bottom, go straight ahead, and then turn left at the end, back past the Ship Inn and the war memorial. Retrace your steps to Parade Car Park and the start point.
