Mousehole Lamorna, Merry Maidens

Directions:  From Mousehole harbour SW 470 264 follow the coast path through the town picking up Raginnis Hill to pass the wild bird sanctuary.  Where the road bears right follow the signs to the coast path SW 466 256, the path descends through woodland passing an overgrown ruin. Look out for exposed metal work embedded in the path.

Follow path for some time taking care when navigating granite outcrops.  Cross a stream using the stepping stones.  Pass Wildlife Trust Information Point for Kemyel Crease. Continue on the Coast Path through the granite landscape before ascending steps at marker post before descending into Lamorna Cove SW 449 240

Walk around the harbour, making use of the café (seasonal) before leaving on the road climbing up the hill.  Follow the road passing the Lamorna Wink and Lamorna Village Hall. Take the path on the left marked as a Public Bridleway SW 444 247

Pass the Menwinnian Care Home and a converted chapel to the junction of two lanes and a road. Do not follow the road but, cross the stile on the left and cross diagonally across the field to another stile.  Cross the field to the Merry Maidens stone circle passing through the centre of the circle and continuing on the same line to the corner of the field SW 431 244

Cross the stile to join the road to Lands End – B3315. 

Option – turn left and follow the road reaching Tregiffian Barrow, a megalithic chambered tomb (English Nature Information sign). Retrace your steps.

Find the footpath on the opposite side of the Land End road, to the left of a powerline pole and cross the field heading towards a standing stone.  Follow the hedge line about 50 metres to a stone stile through the hedge, cross this field diagonally to another stone stile and cross the following field to a gap in the hedge.  Head straight across this next field to a stone stile to the left of Choone Farm buildings. Turn left to follow the farm lane to the lane to St Buryan, again turning left follow the road to where it joins the Lands End road – B3315. 

Immediately cross the road and find a footpath opposite SW 425 242, behind the Celtic Cross accessed by a stone stile, the footpath appears to now follow the field boundary to a stone stile on the right, cross this next field to another stone stile just to the left a large stone set into the hedge. 

Keep to the right-hand hedge to find another stile, after which, cross the field then turn right to follow the hedge to exit by gate at Boscawen Farm.  Pass by the farm buildings and turn left onto track and at the end turn right on to the road.  Follow the road to Tregiffian Farm SW 432 235, just past the last house find a footpath on the left, accessed by a high stone stile, cross the next two field keeping to the left-hand hedge.

At Rosemodress Farm SW 440 238 turn left on lane to find a footpath on the right, accessed by wooden stile, at the end of the path find a stone stile well hidden in the hedge. In the next field keep again to the left-hand hedge, pass by some buildings to find a track heading in the same direction, this track turns into a lane at the next crop of houses and follow the lane to the end, here turn left on to road and follow this as it descends into Lamorna. 

Cross over the road to a lane opposite, SW 446 245, passing the old post office and the old mill building to find a footpath on the right, SW 446 246. 

Follow this path as it climbs, passing two squeezer stiles and then two stone stiles before turning left to find Higher Kemyel Farm. At the farmhouse turn left to follow the track.  As the track turns left there is a stile and marker post climb the stile and cross the field keeping the hedge on your left.  Cross another field and a stile SW 456 247 before heading for the corner of the wall in front of the Kemyel Crease farm buildings ahead. 

Cross a stile with a footpath sign and turn left along a farm track passing between farm buildings continue along the lane before crossing a stile on the right next to a metal gate.  The path keeps to the left of the field passing another stile.  Take the narrow path to a further stile and onto a stone bridge and stepping stones.  Follow the track, crossing a farm lane and through four gates, between the farm buildings of Kemyel Drea SW 460 250.

Pass through a wooden gate into a field with farm buildings on the right side.  Cross the stile by the stone cross.  Head across the field to a stile next to a gate.  Keep to the left boundary, passing over another stile into a field with a stile in the corner.  Cross the stile into a further field, again keeping to the left.  Cross another stile across another field to a further stile next to a metal gate. 

Turn right onto the road SW 464 257 then immediately left beside Raginnis Cottage to enter Raginnis Farm.  Keep on the farm track to the right of the farmhouse and The Piggery to find the footpath directly ahead.  Cross the stile, keeping to the boundary of the field before going through a gate.  Cross the field towards St. Michael’s Mount to another stile next to wooden marker post.  Head across the next field to another stile and diagonally across this field to a gate in the hedge SW 467 261.

 Pass down some stone steps and turn left.  After ten yards take a narrow path on the right.  Turn right and descend a steep lane into Mousehole.  Return to where you parked your car.
