Special notes – This walk is a one way walk, unless you are feeling energetic!
There are two ways in which this can be achieved.
Either use two cars with one parked at the Boating Lake in Werrytown, Penzance SW 466 294, and the other at Carn Galver car park.
The second way, which is more environmentally friendly, is to catch the bus.
Pick a nice day! Catch the First Kernow, Lands End, Coaster, (open top bus) in Penzance or St. Ives, or any town on its route.
Let’s say you start at The Rotary Boating Pool Penzance. The coaster Bus stop is across the road in front of the toilets. It’s a wonderful journey through western Cornwall, but don’t forget to get off at Carn Galver Mine to do the walk.
Starting from the car park/bus stop in front of Carn Galver mine and facing inland, turn downhill to the right, to a cattle grid. Just after cattle grid you will see a gate to your left go, through and walk steadily uphill.
When you get to the top, take a short diversion to Carn Gulver rock on your left. From the rocks you can see across Cornwall from North to South coast.
When you reach the level ground, head for the mine stack in front of you on a clearly defined track. When you reach Ding Dong mine, follow a rough stone track straight ahead until you reach a paved road and then go straight ahead.
When you reach the main Madron to Morvah road, look for a footpath on your left towards the sea in the distance. Follow this footpath but be a little careful as it does switch fields quite often and not clearly. Eventually you reach a track/road where you turn right.
Now look for a footpath on your left towards Madron. Follow this and then join the road that goes through the village.
Go through Madron heading downhill. Just before the King William Public House take the road to your right, and pass in front of the church car park, to a footpath just past the war memorial. Follow this path downhill, across a road and straight along a well-defined path. Bear left over a stile into Rose Hill Farm.
Pass through the farm and look for a footpath on the right down to a river crossing, follow the path up the other side and walk past the YMCA hostel and down the drive.
At the A30 Penzance by-pass cross straight over and continue to Alverton road with the river on your right. At Alverton Road, turn right towards the Pirate public house, then turn left down Love Lane and follow it towards the sea. At the end you will see the Rotary Boating Pool and your car or bus stop.
Note
This walk can be done the other way around of course, but (a) you will have your back to the views most of the way, and (b) do you want to miss the bus on the North Coast?
